  Deep Green Bush-School

.

Cost

We are operating as  a private school in order to maintain our unique philosophy and function outside the demands of the state-funded school system.  We are not an 'elitist' school and we are committed to maintaining the fees as affordable as possible.

Also, consider that mainstream state schools are not actually free. Parents and kids pay for “free education” in many ways.  According a recent survey, the cost of 13 years of "free" schooling is around NZ$35,000 - in addition to your taxes!  (source)  Also, see the books and writings of Peter Gray,  John Gatto, Carol Black, and Jessica Mwanzia for more on additional costs.   When you consider this, and just how healthy, confident, resilient and strong your child will develop at the DGBS, it's clear our fees are very low. At the DGBS, your child will gain the most important foundation for life – social and emotional intelligence.

Discounts are available for enthusiastic and responsible teenagers.

School fees

Cost per year (domestic students): NZ $6800 +GST

The term fees for 2020 are NZ$1700+GST .  These fees are payable before the first day of each term.

We offer a 10% discount on all term fees for families with more than one child attending the school.

Bus

We now operate a daily shuttle which runs from Clevedon.  Contact us for more details.

Applying

Though we are called a 'school', our vision is much more far-reaching. We see school as an anomaly in the context of two million years of human evolution and learning in the wild. Our goal is to create a meeting place for like-minded people joined by a vision of a healthy world and who are passionate to act on it. We recognize that the real measure by which our children will judge us is the health of the land and Earth they inherit from us. We also understand that the real knowledge they look to us for is that which enables both their self-reliance and interconnectedness with all of life - not dependence, alienation and drudgery.  Though we anticipate that our way of learning will appeal to many parents, especially of children that have been let down by the school system, we ask that you please familiarize yourself with our objectives and philosophy by reading the curriculum and apply only if you are prepared to support them.

The Application Process:

1. Make sure you have fully read our curriculum document, "A Culture of Sustainability".  The PDF is below.  Make sure you have also read our "Core Principles".  This first step is absolutely essential before continuing with the application process.

2. Fill out the application form/expression of interest and email back.

3. We will contact you for a phone interview.

4. Come for a morning visit to the school.

5.If applicable, the student may be invited for a trial enrollment period.
