Joey Moncarz

Creator/former principal of the late Deep Green Bush-School

My efforts reflect the love for life on Earth. I try to live with respect—for people, animals, land, and all living systems—and to meet the world with empathy and responsibility. My work is guided by fairness, ecological awareness, and a commitment to challenge exploitation and oppression wherever it appears. I believe in extending compassion toward others, because care and understanding make communities, relationships, and landscapes stronger. I stand up for what is right, even when it’s unpopular and even when there's a price to be paid.
My Core Values
  • Respect and care for people
To honor the complexity, well-being, and emotional safety of everyone I interact with.
  • Epistemic humility
To always remember that there is much I do not know and can never know, and that often I may be wrong. I am always learning.

  • Thoughtful decision-making
To strive to make careful, responsible decisions, aware that I never have the full picture. I weigh evidence, lived experience, and practical wisdom while remaining open to learning and correction.

  • Listen and collaborate
I welcome different perspectives, and seek discussion and collaboration.
  • Valuing wisdom from place and tradition
I honor long-standing, culturally grounded knowledge and our connection to living systems.
  • Restoration and stewardship
To approach conflict with repair, empathy, and giving others the benefit of the doubt, and to place the health and well-being of people and the planet as the highest priority. Healthy outcomes are only possible through restorative approaches.

  • Forgiveness
I forgive those who have harmed me while clearly acknowledging the harm done. I consider context—fear, ignorance, insecurity, and cultural or parental pressures—without letting it erase impact. I prioritize repair over punishment: sincere acknowledgment and meaningful amends.
  • The Precautionary Principle
To act based on the old advice, "Better safe than sorry." I believe it should be applied to any invention or action, otherwise risking unintended consequences and harming others, future generations, and life on the planet.
  • The Golden Rule
I treat others as I would want to be treated. This means respect, and extending empathy and compassion. This is the foundation for any healthy relationship or society. Failure to do so assures unintended consequences and ongoing pain.

I ask others to practice the same humility and care in their words and actions.
